3-Day Aral Sea and Savitsky Museum Tour

3 Days | Private | Year-Round | Nukus, Muynak, Ustyurt Plateau, Aral Sea, Kurgancha Kala, Kubla-Ustyurt, Lake Sudochye, Kungrad, Mizdakhan, Gyaur-Kala
[Private Tours from US$ 470]

This 3-day cultural, adventure, and active tour to the Aral Sea starts from Tashkent. Half a century ago, this was a massive, full-flowing, endorheic salt lake, so enormous it could only be called a sea. Ships and fishing fleets, harvesting 34 species of fish, sailed its waters. The entire Aral coast was dotted with fishing villages, with at least a dozen fish factories, two fish canning plants, and about a hundred fish receiving points operating here. Annually, about 60,000 tons of fish were harvested from the Aral Sea. The region's life was bustling, the area was flourishing... The local population still remembers those times, but where ships once sailed, there is now a desert covered with salt marshes and dry algae, fishing villages are abandoned, and the rusted frames of abandoned ships remain. A Uzbekistan trip to the Aral Sea leaves a mixed feeling of admiration for the incredible beauty of the "Martian" landscapes of the Aral Desert and the Ustyurt Plateau, and sadness that one inevitably experiences when seeing the exposed wounds of this land.

Tour Program:

Day 1: Tashkent – Nukus

The museum houses the world's second-largest collection of Russian avant-garde art and an exposition of Karakalpak applied art, collected by the Russian artist and philanthropist I.V. Savitsky. Next, you will have a walk through the city center, where the monument to the Karakalpak poet Berdakh, the Nukus Khokimiyat, and the Drama Theater are located. Overnight at the hotel.
*Guide services for the city tour of Nukus are not included in the tour price and are provided upon request.
